Some countries make it mandatory for young people to do militeray service (for at least) two years, from the age eighteen. They think it’s a nice civic training to develop civism and to orient them also to be come better citizen later on, to serve their country better.

Anpil nan ti atik kout sa yo nou pibliye ta sikile deja sou lis kontak nou. Se yon fason pou eseye atenn majorite Ayisyen posib, epi pou yo menm an retou ta pataje yo ak lis kontak pa yo tou. Ti atik sa yo konn parèt alekri (sou ekran telefòn), oubyen sou fòm mesaj vokal atravè ribrik nou, «Edike Ayisyen Ayiti, e Ayisyen nan Dyaspora», ke n lanse depi prentan 2018.

 

Many of these short articles that we publish, would have been already circulated through our contact list. It’s a way to try to reach out most Haitians possible, and for them in return to share them with their contact list also. These articles appear on written form (on the phone screen), or vocal message messages through our session, “Educating Haitians in Haiti, and Haitians in Diaspora”, that we launch since Spring 2018.

We don’t want to limit our work in education through publication of articles and books only, but we think about all possible ways we can reach most Haitians for conciousness raising on what can be done, what should be done for another Haiti that would have a positive image in the world, and where all young peope would feel happy.

Given that Haiti does not have a functional army (and it is still under an occupation, with international forces stepping on its ground). At the same time also, everyonone, every Haitian patriot may think how this can become a reality with laws to support that. That would give all young people who are eighteen the means to do civic duties to start serving their homeland.

Haiti’s future depends on the Haitian youth today that many bad leaders look down upon. They don’t support young people. Youth is not part of their campaign program either. They young people are thirstty of directioon and orientation to learn to develop leadership from very early. We should think in all directions how the government should think of legal ways to engage them in civic works that will help in Haiti’s development.

L’avenir d’Haïti dépend de la jeunesse haïtienne d’aujourd’hui, que beaucoup de mauvais leaders mépriset. Ils ne soutiennent pas les jeunes. Ils ne font non plus partie de leur programme de campagne. Les jeunes ont soif de direction et d’orientation pour apprendre à développer le leadership de très tôt. Nous devrions réfléchir dans toutes les directions à la manière dont le gouvernement devrait penser aux moyens légaux de les engager dans des travaux civiques qui aideront au développement d’Haïti.

Donk olye pou y ap panse al Brezil, Chili (riske vi yo nan kanntè) pou eseye ateri Bahamas, Miyami, li preferab pou leta ayisyen ta eseye pase lwa pou travay sivik ta vin obligatwa.  Travay sa yo ta gen pou wè ak: aprann kondi traktè pou raboure tè pou fè agrikilti, pou fè wout ak kanalizasyon pou ede nan kad desantralizasyon e devlopman Ayiti, travay nan pwojè rebwazman, nan pwojè pepinyè (plant, legim, pyebwa, ab fritye); pwojè konstriksyon edifis leta, e renovasyon yo (nan tout peyi a); nan pwojè alfabetizasyon nan tout pwovens yo (kote yo rate lekòl); pwojè amenajman lekòl leta yo… Leta ta dwe peye jèn sa yo yon salè (pandan yo ta jwenn lojman e lamanjay gratis nan komin kote y ap fè travay sivik sa yo). Epi nou ta pwopoze pou jèn yo ta fè travay sivik sa yo nan pwòp komin kote yo soti, menm si yo ta gen pou deplase pafwa pou al pran fòmasyon nan yon biwo santral ki pa ta nan komin kote yo ye.

 

So, instead of thinking of going to Brazil, Chile (risking their life in «kanntè boats» or flimsy boats) trying to reach the Bahamas, Miami… it would be better if the government tried to pass laws making civic works compulsory. This would include: learning to operate tractors to plow land for agriculture, to make roads and canalizations to help in decentralizing and developing Haiti, to work on reforestation projects, on nursery projects (plants, vegetables, trees and trees that bear fruits); construction projects for state buildings and their renovations (throughout the country); in literacy projects in all the provinces (where they lack schools); projects to renovate state-run schools… The government would have to pay these young people a salary (while they would have free lodging and meals in the commune where they are doing these civic works). And we would propose that these youg people do these civic works in their local communes where they are from, even if they would have to go to a central office for traning that is not in their local commune.

We emphasize a lot on formation traning for youth in our research. So, it would be a great opportunity to reinforce that, to orient them vi-à-vis trades, professions and careers they can embrace later. That way, during the two years of these civil services, all young people can have an idea which direction they are going and the preparation they can start having to become good and responsible leaders tomorrow.

After two years of civic training, two years of career orientation, trades, professions, two years of formation and orientation training to learn to develop business, they will have the choice to pursue university studies (where more or less they will already be well-oriented in what field of study to go, in relation to the two years of experience of civic works and career orientation they have received).
