Research Consultant, Meetings that Matter, October 2000 - present
In cooperation with Princeton University Center for Arts and Cultural Policy Studies and MEM Associates, and with a grant from the Pew Charitable Trusts this study investigates the role that arts conferences play in advancing U.S. cultural policy.

  • Attend and provide critical review of multiple U.S. arts conferences; schedule and mediate phone interviews and in- person roundtable discussions with key cultural policy leaders.
  • Devise evaluation instrument; code and analyze 300 conference programs spanning 10 years; analyze and draw conclusions from policy discussions, interviews, conference panels, and database findings; produce summary report for each conference; co-author final report.

Research Consultant, NASAA-AFTA participate2001 Conference Evaluation, August 2001 - present
On behalf of the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies (NASAA) and Americans for the Arts (AFTA) this project aims to assess the effectiveness of the first NASAA-AFTA joint conference.

  • Conceive and devise two-part survey instrument; conduct phone interviews with conference participants; code and input data; analyze and draw conclusions from findings; co-author interim and final report.

Market Research Consultant, Morgan Stanley, August 2001 - present
Conduct client feedback research for the institutional sales and trading arm of top tier investment bank.

  • Schedule and conduct interviews with client constituency; co-edit surveys; code and input data; achieved high participation rate (98%) and success rate (95%).

Marketing Coordinator, E-Commerce, July 1999 – September 2000

  • Conducted market research and devised strategic marketing plans for MoMA.org, MoMA Online Store, MoMA E-Cards and E-News.
  • Managed core group of three consultants and four interns in execution of strategic marketing plans. Increased
    traffic for MoMA.org (200%) and MoMA Online Store (470%). Increased MoMA Online Store holiday sales
    (430%).Tripled E-News subscriber base and number of E-Cards sent.
  • Produced in-depth quarterly analysis of dynamics between MoMA Online Store traffic, sales, and conversion
    rate, and MoMA.org traffic as they pertained to industry trends; calculated volume/cost/sales estimates for
    MoMA Online Store.
  • Researched and identified strategic partnerships; project managed MoMA Store Affiliate Network comprising 2,000 affiliate Web sites; coordinated online ad campaigns and sponsorships; oversaw departmental budget.

Stephanie Lynne Hinton graduated with a B.A. in English Literature from Grinnell College in 1994. She completed an M.A. in Arts Administration at Columbia University in 2001. Hinton's research interests include U.S. Cultural Policy, leadership initiatives in the arts and the art of storytelling. She has worked as a researcher with Princeton University Center for Arts and Cultural Policy Studies, as well as Americans for the Arts and National Assembly of State Arts Agencies. She is currently developing a study of professional storytellers in the U.S. under the auspices of Columbia University's Research Center for Arts and Culture.
